English learning techniques

English learning techniques ideas.

Check goal sheet , try to answer them in your own words effectively.

Sunday, 11 February 2018

1) check the primary and standby databases are in sync

2) if observer is running
     1) disable fast_start failover (Disable FAST_START FAILOVER) and to ensure use "show configuration" command

     2) go to observer server then execute respective g2ap stop obeserver script and check the logfile to ensure observre is stopped

3)execute kill.sql script in primary server.
4)dgmgrl /
5)connect as sys user
7)show configuration
6)switchover to 'gleg2apr';
7)show configuration

scenario 1)

if gleg2apr becomes primary automatically after swithcover then log sync needs to be checked . if syncing is fine then database needs to be shutdown for unix patching

database shutdown process

1) connect to dgmgrl prompt
2) edit database 'glwg2apr' set property LogShipping='OFF'; show database verbose 'GLWG2APR';
3) go to glg2apprdb01 server.
4) down the listener
5) down the database

after unix patching is completed.

1) startup the database in mount mode ( alter database mount)
2)startup the listener
3)go to dgmgrl prompt
4)EDIT DATABASE 'GLWG2APR' SET PROPERTY LogShipping='ON'; show database verbose 'GLWG2APR';
5)check log sync

scenario 2)

if we get a message to startup the primary database manually after switchover command executed.

1) go to gleg2apprdb01
2) alter database open
4) go to glg2apprdb01
5) shutdown the database
6) open the database in mount state(alter database mount)
7) check the status of logshipping;
8) check all databases are in sync
9) if all are in sync , off the logshipping ie edit database 'glwg2apr' set property LogShipping='OFF'; show database verbose 'GLWG2APR';
10) down the listener
5) down the database

after unix patching is completed.

1) startup the database in mount mode ( alter database mount)-glg2apprdb01
2)startup the listener
3)go to dgmgrl prompt
4)EDIT DATABASE 'GLWG2APR' SET PROPERTY LogShipping='ON'; show database verbose 'GLWG2APR';
5)check log sync

Apply PSU Patch on a DG Environment with MAX AVAILABILITY and FAST START FAILOVER

1.       In the Primary Site, change the Protection Mode to Max Performance.
This is required as in Max Availability, you will not be allowed to stop Log service, when you are running with ONE Standby, throwing the following error:
DGMGRL> edit database 'tdusdpr' set state='LOG-TRANSPORT-OFF';
Error: ORA-16627: operation disallowed since no standby databases would remain to support protection mode
Failed.

DGMGRL> edit database 'tdusgpr' set property LogShipping='OFF';
Error: ORA-16627: operation disallowed since no standby databases would remain to support protection mode
Failed.

The later command will succeed if you have more than one standby but we need to anyway stop Log Shipping and hence changing Protection Mode is the Only Solution to end in successful stoppage.

Ensure that the Dataguard is in complete sync and then DISABLE FAST_START FAILOVER.
DGMGRL> show configuration verbose;
Configuration
  Name:                tds_us_prod
  Enabled:             YES
  Protection Mode:     MaxAvailability
  Fast-Start Failover: ENABLED
  Databases:
    tdusdpr - Primary database
    tdusgpr - Physical standby database
            - Fast-Start Failover target
Fast-Start Failover
  Threshold:           180 seconds
  Observer:            glglprgr01
  Shutdown Primary:    TRUE
Current status for "tds_us_prod":
SUCCESS

DGMGRL> DISABLE FAST_START FAILOVER;
Disabled.

DGMGRL> show configuration verbose;
Configuration
  Name:                tds_us_prod
  Enabled:             YES
  Protection Mode:     MaxAvailability
  Fast-Start Failover: DISABLED
  Databases:
    tdusdpr - Primary database
    tdusgpr - Physical standby database
Current status for "tds_us_prod":
SUCCESS
Once FAST_START FAILOVER has been disabled, then change the protection mode.
The disable is required as with FSFO enabled, you cannot change the PROTECTION MODE as depicted here.
DGMGRL> edit database 'tdusgpr' set state='LOG-APPLY-OFF';
Succeeded.
DGMGRL> EDIT CONFIGURATION SET PROTECTION MODE AS MAXPERFORMANCE;
Error: ORA-16628: the broker protection mode is inconsistent with the database setting
Failed.

                With FSFO disabled, change the Protection Mode.
                DGMGRL> EDIT DATABASE 'tdusgpr' SET STATE='LOG-APPLY-OFF'; --note this Standby Database
Succeeded.
DGMGRL> EDIT CONFIGURATION SET PROTECTION MODE AS MAXPERFORMANCE;
Succeeded.

DGMGRL> show configuration verbose;

                Databases:
                tdusdpr - Primary database
                tdusgpr - Physical standby database
Current status for "tds_us_prod":
SUCCESS

2.        Disable Log Shipping to Standby Site.
DGMGRL> EDIT DATABASE 'tdusdpr' SET STATE='LOG-TRANSPORT-OFF'; --note this is Primary
Succeeded.
If the database are queried then the Log Services Status can be viewed.
DGMGRL> show database verbose 'tdusdpr';

  Role:            PHYSICAL STANDBY
  Enabled:         YES
  Intended State:  LOG-APPLY-OFF
  Instance(s):
    TDUSGPR

3.       Shutdown Standby database services, apply the patch at the Standby Site binaries and restart services
Stop Services
$ emctl stop agent
SQL> shutdown immediate
$ lsnrctl stop LISTENER_DG

Apply patch
$ unzip p12879933_102044_<platform>.zip
$ opatach lsinventory
$ opatch prereq CheckConflictAgainstOHWithDetail -phBaseDir ./12879933
$ opatch lsinventory
$ opatch apply

Restart the listener first and then Standby Site database to MOUNT. Do NOT start MRP process.
$ emctl start agent
$ lsnrctl start LISTENER_DG
SQL> startup mount

4.       Apply the Patch to the Primary and Restart Database and Listener in Primary
Stop Services
$ emctl stop agent
SQL> shutdown immediate
$ lsnrctl stop LISTENER_DG

Apply patch
$ unzip p12879933_102044_<platform>.zip
$ opatach lsinventory
$ opatch prereq CheckConflictAgainstOHWithDetail -phBaseDir ./12879933
$ opatch lsinventory
$ opatch apply

Apply catbundle only on Primary Database
$ cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin
$ sqlplus / as sysdba
SQL> startup
SQL> @catbundle opsu apply
SQL> SELECT * FROM registry$history where ID = '6452863';
This returns 1 row hence view recompilation is not needed here.
SQL> @utlrp.sql
SQL> shu immediate

Restart the listener first and then Primary Site database
SQL> startup
SQL> lsnrctl start LISTENER_DG

5.       In the Primary Site, Reenable Log Shipping
DGMGRL> connect /
DGMGRL> show configuration;
Configuration
  Name:                tds_us_prod
  Enabled:             YES
  Protection Mode:     MaxPerformance
  Fast-Start Failover: DISABLED
  Databases:
    tdusdpr - Primary database
    tdusgpr - Physical standby database
Current status for "tds_us_prod":
SUCCESS
DGMGRL>

DGMGRL> edit database 'tdusgpr' set state='ONLINE';
Succeeded.
DGMGRL> edit database 'tdusdpr' set state='ONLINE';
Succeeded.

DGMGRL> show database verbose 'tdusdpr';
Database
  Name:            tdusdpr
  Role:            PRIMARY
  Enabled:         YES
  Intended State:  ONLINE
  Instance(s):
    TDUSDPR
……..
..…...
DGMGRL> show database verbose 'tdusgpr';
Database
  Name:            tdusgpr
  Role:            PHYSICAL STANDBY
  Enabled:         YES
  Intended State:  ONLINE
  Instance(s):
    TDUSGPR
………
………

6.       Check that the Both Databases are Syncronised.
SQL> select thread#,max(sequence#),archived,applied from v$archived_log where archived='YES' group by thread#,archived,applied order by 1,2;

7.       Change the Protection Mode back to Maximum Availability

DGMGRL> EDIT CONFIGURATION SET PROTECTION MODE AS MAXAVAILABILITY;
Succeeded.

DGMGRL> enable fast_start failover;
Enabled.
This might end up in throwing the below error. In case, this is encountered, start the Observer.

DGMGRL> show configuration;
Configuration
  Name:                tds_us_prod
  Enabled:             YES
  Protection Mode:     MaxAvailability
  Fast-Start Failover: ENABLED
  Databases:
    tdusdpr - Primary database
    tdusgpr - Physical standby database
            - Fast-Start Failover target
Current status for "tds_us_prod":
Warning: ORA-16607: one or more databases have failed
DGMGRL> exit
                Once the observer is started, we can recheck the configuration status which now will be SUCCESS.
DGMGRL> show configuration;
Configuration
  Name:                tds_us_prod
  Enabled:             YES
  Protection Mode:     MaxAvailability
  Fast-Start Failover: Enabled
  Databases:
    tdusdpr - Primary database
    tdusgpr - Physical standby database
            - Fast-Start Failover target

Current status for "tds_us_prod":
SUCCESS

8.       This will successfully end the Data Guard Patching on Max Availability running with Fast Start Failover.

MAXQUERYLEN : Identifies the length of the longest query (in seconds) executed in the instance during the period.
You can use this statistic to estimate the proper setting of the UNDO_RETENTION initialization parameter.
The length of a query is measured from the cursor open time to the last fetch/execute time of the cursor.
Only the length of those cursors that have been fetched/executed during the period are reflected in the view.

Query which orders the MAXQUERYLEN column of v$undostat data in descending order  .
 select *
from v$undostat us , v$sql s
where us.MAXQUERYID = s.sql_id
order by  UNDOBLKS desc;
We can use maxqueryid column present in v$undostat to join with v$sql view in order to get sql query which is using undo space.
How do you get the undo usage ?
UNDOBLKS column present in the v$undostat gives the number of undo blocks are being used currently. you have to multiply with size of block to get the usage.

how total undo size is calculated.
Content column present in dba_tablespaces provides information regarding whether tablespace is a temporary tablespace , permanent tablespace or undo tablespaces.
there you can retrive all undo tablespaces.  sometimes tablespace may be offline . so filter only online undo tablespace using status column of dba_tablespaces
now I need all the datafiles associated to these undo tablespaces to get bytes or size of datafiles. this we can get from v$datafile but concern is v$datafile doesn't contain
any undotablespace name or any tablespace name . it contain tablespace number hence I need to combine tablespace_name of dba_tablespaces to name column of v$tablespace
which contain tablespace name with it id. so here I am getting id of tablespace with I need to combine with v$datafile to get total bytes used for undo tablespace.

SQL> select sum(d.bytes) "undo"
  2  from v$datafile d,
  3  v$tablespace t,
  4  dba_tablespaces s
  5  where s.contents = 'UNDO'
  6  and s.status = 'ONLINE'
  7  and t.name = s.tablespace_name
  8  and d.ts# = t.ts#;

HOw do you check whether FTP is configured and running or not ?

I found that I have several services running related to ftp

cat /etc/services | grep ftp
ftp-data        20/tcp
ftp             21/tcp
tftp            69/udp
sftp            115/tcp
ftps-data       989/tcp                         # FTP over SSL (data)
ftps            990/tcp
venus-se        2431/udp                        # udp sftp side effect
codasrv-se      2433/udp                        # udp sftp side effect
frox            2121/tcp                        # frox: caching ftp proxy
zope-ftp        8021/tcp                        # zope management by ftp

The /etc/services file is used to tell what ports are standard for a given service. It does not mean that they are installed. If you look at the file, you can see that ftp data is transferred on port 21 using TCP and that port 21 is the standard ftp port and also uses TCP. It is a tool that client and servers can use to determine what ports to open for a connection. It is also a reference for administration purposes to know what service goes w/ what ports.

/etc/services file contain service port number and protocol.

if you want to view running service use nmap or netstat command

Specify PUBLIC to create a public database link visible to all users. If you omit this clause, then the database link is private and is available only to you.
The data accessible on the remote database depends on the identity the database link uses when connecting to the remote database:
  • If you specify CONNECT TO user IDENTIFIED BY password, then the database link connects with the specified user and password.
  • If you specify CONNECT TO CURRENT_USER, then the database link connects with the user in effect based on the scope in which the link is used.
  • If you omit both of those clauses, then the database link connects to the remote database as the locally connected user.

Peoplesoft

Components of a PeopleSoft System

 PeopleSoft is a chain of linked technologies that stretch between the user and the database.

The database is fundamental to the entire structure, but the technology stack stretches out through the BEA Tuxedo Application Server and the Java servlet to the user's browser

How do you memorise Peoplesoft Diagram ?

How people soft applications connect webserver . it is through Jolt and how webserver will connect to internet browser it is through HTTP.

what ever I have explained above is Application execution part .

There are actually 2 parts
1) application Execution part.
2) application Development part.

Application development part also contains people soft  application server that server host application development tools. it is through Tuxedo
